"The Republicans are trying to balance the budget on the backs of the Poor." ....can be translated to mean "I'm doing very well giving money away to everyone so they'll support me with their votes." AND "If I don't get my money to give away to voters, I'm going to lay on the floor and kick and scream and stomp my feet until I get it, I don't care if we don't have it, I don't care if it brings the country down because by golly I like this great big house we live in."
Next time lets elect someone with just a tiny bit of business acumen. Somewhere in their background a President needs to have had several years of their personal banker looking grimely over the reading glasses and saying, "Cliff, If you don't get this turned around by this time next year, we may need to part company." OR put another way..."You're fired."
If we confiscated all of the income from all of the business men in our country, we still couldn't balance the budget. (and we'd run out of employers quickly) We must stop spending. Across the board cuts are the only answer.

I totally agree... Also: How about we not give 2 BILLION dollars to Brazil so they can drill for oil to sell to China...We can't even drill for oil in our own country, but he gives away our tax payer dollars to Brazil so they can drill....Sorry for the rant.... Hate watching our dollar get weaker and weaker...

It makes me sad to even think about it Cliff. The problems in Washington are so huge...just sad what our country has come to.
Now if only we could come up with somebody worth voting for. I like Ron Paul, but evidently most folks don't.
Why, oh why, do we need to continually state the obvious? This march to self-destruction continues, lies promoting class warfare are lapped up like a cool water on a hot day, you will see $6/gal gas and exploding inflation, the top 25% of earners pay pay 87% of the taxes, 47% pay NO taxes, and, oh, a wagging finger tells us that once again the DOJ will be investigating collusion by the oil companies (they never find any, it's a politician's smoke screen for poor performance). Meanwhile, voters maintain their passive "deer in the headlights" role. Not withstanding all the fraud, WE elect these gutless "showmen". Start apologizing to the kids and grandkids - we owe 'em that much.
We allowed this to happen and if we're not careful, it will happen again. We must quit name calling and get down to the basic critical issues. Too much time is spent on social injustice and too little time on strengthening our country and preserving our freedom. Ev said it best with "WE elect these gutless showmen (and show-women)".
Hi Cliff, I'm gonna trust the wisdom of you and your readers when you say that the government spending is out of control and Obama is chucking a tantrum to get funds to continue.
Our 2 countries have many similarities but also many differences so I'm not about to give a lecture on how to do things.. BUT.. the "handout" payments made hy the Rudd government have been widely applauded from within and from outside our country, without being too extravagant they were enough to keep our economy ticking over and it is again widely believed to have allowed Australia to suffer less than most other countries during the Global Depression... Amen.

I agree with a balanced budget, Cliff. And turning it around is the only way it will get better.
There is a problem. What kind of business says we have too much income and reduces prices and sales? The income of the government comes a lot from taxes. Those have been cut for political gain.
My way to get back in balance would be to cut spending first, then if and when the budget is in better balance cut taxes a little. Boost the bottom line first by cutting and use the savings to help pay off the debt. Don't cut the top line first. No wonder we are almost going out of business (per S&P).
The bailout did save our country from folding financially. [Saved my retirement too, half (teacher's) was with AIG.]

Okay folks I'm talking about the entitlements.
Having said that, it's a fact that cutting taxes raises revenues. It has everytime it has been tried.
It's not political to cut taxes. It's political to repeat over and over and over and over again the lie that we're letting the rich go free of taxes while the poor don't get a break. THE WEALTHY ARE THE ONLY ONES PAYNG TAXES. Are we so stupid as to think that if go ahead and confiscate what they have left including their incentive to do well in business and hire employees that it could somehow help the economy?
Promising to clothe, house,feed,fuel, provide health care and even give huge tax refunds to folks who didn't pay any taxes does BUY VOTES. THATS WHAT'S POLITICAL.
