ME!!
I didn't watch the Academy Awards last night. I didn't think I could take an evening of America's most self important people, gathered to pat themselves on the back while they watched their favorite Newsman. They don't understand that John Stewart is just a comedian. They are all about making a 'statement'.
I made my statement too. "Who cares".

Bah humbug Cliff! I didn't watch either! No big deal to me. Great minds think alike.
My daughter turned it on for about the last hour. I watched Reese Witherspoon win for her role as June Carter Cash. I also saw them announce the winner for best picture. I saw bits of it when I would walk in the family room, but there was nothing happening to grab my attention, except for Reese's win. I was very happy for her. It won't surprise me if the ratings were low. I had heard they were expected to be.
Yes JD, that's nice about Reese. She has been one of the few able to stay away from the industry except to work. Otherwise she maintains her private life somewhere down south. She stays grounded. Good for her.
I sadly watched it, only for lack of nothing else to watch...I was waiting for the farmer of the year award, hoping to catch a glimpse of you..but I musta fell asleep before that part aired..
I was hoping that Feclity Huffman would win..i was very dissapointed..such as my life;)
Actually I am glad Brokebutt Mountain didn't win best picture.
I have not seen any of the movies nominated for best picture though.
Who cares? Not me.
My First Wife and I had the best time at an evening church service last night. Then we came home and talked long distance to some friends, then went to bed early...
Hey, do you know any good study books on Joseph--the kid with the colorfully adorned coat who became the next best thing to King of Egypt?
You didn't miss much. We watched another program on PBS at the same time.
But when it came time for my girl, Reese, to win I was right there.
..
Ditto, ditto, ditto, Cliff!
Hi Cliff, I saw it all, thanks to my sister, but a couple of comments, There was even more RUBBISH on with the show than usual, I had never heard of John Stewart, but you're right, he is a comedian, and a darn funny one too, Having seen "Walk The Line" that same day, I was delighted to see Reese win her statue.
Well Cliff a lot of people failed to watch it including me. According to the news this morning this years awards had the lowest rating since they started. That might send a message.
Ralph
Ralph's comment here confirms what I had heard prior to the event. It seems that a lot of people just weren't into it this year. All that primping & preening for only a fraction of usual viewership. I'm sure some celebs were not pleased! "You mean I starved for three weeks & got all those Botox shots for nothing!!??"
I must admit. I watched the whole show. In my defense, I was taking some cold medicine and was only semi-conscious.
Cliff, you described the phenomenon and the participants perfectly. I’m glad to hear you weren’t sitting naked except for a cowboy hat in a bean bag chair cheering for Brokeback mountain. It would have destroyed my whole image of the genesis of so many sage observations and comments. You have to laugh at that gaggle and the way they view all the “little people” .... who made this possible.
I'm not into award shows either.
Love comedy, so will have to check out the person you mentioned, Cliff.
(Jerry's comment is funny! :)
You know, I watched, but for some reason I can't remember. I was talking to Moger the other night on the phone, just as we were about to hang up, he yells, "Brokeback Mountain! Ride 'em Cowboy!" glad to see he's still himself.
Hey Cliff, I hope you get this soon. You might want to check your link to Idgies site. It's not what I thought it was. Scarey!!!
