This Should Explain My Absence

I haven't been by your blog to visit and know that I owe some kind of explanation.
The truth is that it came to pass that I suddenly needed a new background picture for my computer.
So we had to go a few hundred miles to take this one. Ol' Captain 'Hook' took the crew to Harlan County Reservoir on the Nebraska-Kansas border in center of the state.

The decision to do this meant that my stock went up with my wife. She loves fishing.
Since our return the stock has returned to pre-trip lows because of some 'profit taking.'

All of the kids and grand kids were there. We took a boat, this sled, and rented a pontoon.
One never knows when you might run out of watercraft.
This little lass likes to fish. But like the rest on this '3 hour tour', can't quite remember how to clean a white bass.
Mrs Hook caught these two wipers among many other fish. A wiper is a hybrid stocked into many Nebraska lakes by the Game and Parks commission. They are a cross between a white bass and a striped bass.
They get much larger than the white bass. The one on the left weighed in @ 4 1/4 pounds while the other one wasn't weighed but went at least 3 pounds.
I truly would like to have seen the one that got off of my line. He came half way to the boat and then ran. He straightened the hook out.
More pictures to come.
A sign at the marina: ~God does not subtract the hours spent fishing from a mans life.~

"God does not subtract the hours spent fishing from a mans life"

I did not know this fact but it sure clears up some things for me. Now I understand why I lived past 40 years of age. It was all that time I spent fishing that extended my life span. thanks for the info.

What did you mean "profit taking?"
Care to expound upon that comment?

clarence: Nope, not going to do that.

What fun Cliff! Never enough watercraft for the Morrow clan when they all get together. Looks like a pretty place to boat and fish.

Hey Cliff, I'm glad you took that sign to heart! Now just remember what it says, you are working too hard most of the time.

I won't talk about profit taking either because I think I know what it means.
Using those terms can get you into trouble, just like the politicians who spend their Political Capital, one particular president I can remember saying that he would use it to help get things he wanted accomplished. It backfired on him pretty quickly or he didn't realize how little of that capital he had.
I hope you didnt make that mistake.

Well, I said I wouldn't talk about that so I won't. Those are nice fish you have, someone in the funnies invented a camera to attach to the end of their pole to catch a picture of the 'one that got away.'
..
I'll bet I know which picture you'll be using for screen saver. You might get some of that profit back! :-)

What a great time! Vacations go by way too fast .... can we agree that Jim Croce was on to something with those "Time in a Bottle" musings? Thanx for sharing the photos!

We only live 1/4 mile off the greatest fishing lake in Oklahoma yet we have only been fishing a handful of times. We own three boats, including a pontoon boat, yet we haven't had one of them in the water all summer. With ALL the grandchildren visiting now and over the next couple of weeks, we plan to get out on the lake. Wouldn't you know, rain is predicted the entire time! Maybe I'll be able to post some good lake outing photos....maybe, maybe.

What a great photo of you guys together. Mrs. Hook looks so relaxed, it looks like a great time was had by all. I bet dinner the night that those wipers were caught was delish! Glad to see that you guys took time off to have fun.

That looks like soooo much fun! There is nothing more relaxing than fishing out on the lake. It is always a good idea to "get away" once in a while. TF and I took our trip to NYC and late in Sept. we will go to Las Vegas for a four day weekend. After that it will probably be a while before we go anywhere for a while.....

Glad you had fun.

Well, if that's all you were doing, then we'll forgive your lengthy absence.

Our little 4 YO granddaughter just recently caught her first fish. About a 10" catfish, I think. She reeled it in, gave it to her dad and went off to do something else. I don't know who cleaned it, but I can guess.

That's a terrific picture of you & Marilyn.
I'd say that's frame worthy!!
I was gone too, so I was unaware of your lack of blog visits since I too, also, as well was shirking my blog duties whilst in CA.
I'm glad you had a nice, family trip. Fishing is fun, and catching them is even funner!!
