A View From The Porch

This first picture was taken this morning looking northeast from our door. It shows our lawn. It is freshly mowed. I've started doing it myself. Everyone thinks I'm too critical of their mowing. I insist that every blade gets cut. I think that big, dark green patch that looks like a giant patch of native grass is actually a shadow...from a Stealth Bomber,,, that happened to be flying over. Yeah, that's what it is.

The above picture is taken looking straight east out of our front door. If you'll look at the field just past that old gas tank (that Marilyn should haul away)... you'll see an interesting quirk of nature. The rays of the morning sun have bent at just the right angle off of my rounded camera lens to make it look like those rows are crooked. Amusing isn't it. Everyone knows I plant straight rows. Right?

them rows are straight enough---good enough for government inspectors anyway.

The plants will be perfectly happy until harvest time.

Happy Mom's day to you folks. Our Moms are long with the Lord now so all we do is remember on this day.

All I know is, I quit mowing out there because of your critical nature.

I really enjoy these posts! It's much like sharing some good conversation and hot coffee with you on the porch. Thanks for the hospitality, Cliff.

Stealth bombers and straight rows, are you getting a little paranoid Cliff??

wow...are you OCD? LOL I love the pics of your farm. There is nothing quite like the beauty of a freshly plowed/planted field. If there were some cattle in the picture, that would make it perfect.

Wow, Cliff. Those ARE straight rows (I'll send you a picture of my brother's crooked corn rows). You know you really shouldn't talk on a cell phone while you plant.

And my wife wonders why a wander from line to line on the highway!

My computer must have corrected the distortion caused by the sun.

Dirt lets others mow his lawn, any mistakes will be corrected in a day or two anyway. When we were first married I was so excited to have one of those cool meadow lawns, boy was I ever wrong.

Have a good week!

I see rows but where are the plants? What are you growing this year Ralph?.....

Stealth Bomber?.... are they checking out a Right Wing terrorist? Careful about how you mow Ralph, they might be coming after you.....lol.

Cool stuff. Watch my place for a yard work report.

Haven't you heard, Cliff? You get bad water runoff and soil erosion with straight rows. So it looks to me like you done good. Going green, and all...

Those rows look pretty straight to me Cliff! Bout near to perfect as can be I'd say! I love to see the fields like that! It's gotta make you proud of the work you do!

Why should Marilyn haul off the old gas tank???? You're the one on the tractor! Hey...I have to stand up for Marilyn ya know!

Maybe Ralph will come and help you mow some and he won't leave any unmowed patches! Honestly! I'll bet he's been to mowing school since you (according to his comment anyway) have been critical of his mowing in the past!

The comment about her moving the old tank was too funny!!!! My 12 year old planted our garden corn, the hubs is QUICK to tell anyone and everyone so they know he didn't do the "not so straight" rows, lol.

The mowing and the planting photos remind me of something my grandma told me when I was worried about a crooked part in my hair, "A thief on a galloping horse wouldn't notice."

Dad used to make me do over the crooked rows. I suppose this is a little rebellious streak coming out?
How about that triangle (I won't argue with the Stealth Bomber on the weed patch) of tall grass? Rebellion again, or did your mower break.

Cliff, these look soooooo nice and inviting, have you been thinking that it still isn't too late for blogstock '09?

I'm with Nora: "A thief on a galloping horse wouldn't notice."

And the sun pouring through the background takes my attention away from the crooked rows - if there WERE crooked rows. You have a beautiful place, Cliff.

You mean you're actually displaying evidence that you're a crooked farmer?

Marilyn really should haul that old gas tank away.
I'm sure she'll do that just as soon as I put a new transmission in our Volvo.

:-)
