Hold Your Horses!

This began as a view from the porch until I yelled "get those hay burners off of that muddy lawn." So they backed up to the road and then I yelled "Hay," (that was to get the horses attention), "Hold your horses," that's when I snapped this pick of my daughter and oldest grandson.
You'll notice that the horses weren't eating anything at the time I took the picture. That might be a first.
The young lad keeps telling Grandpa he loves living on a farm. When I was his age I wanted to own a horse so I could ride like the Lone Ranger. I would have paid anything to get to ride one. Now that I'm older, I'd pay a great deal not to have to ride a horse. So would the horse. So I don't.
On second thought, we have 10 horses, I do pay a lot not to ride a horse.
Back to the Grandson, he's a good, kind hearted, unassuming young man. What you see is what you get. You can trust him but not the horse he's holding.
All of this reminds me of an old joke. The Lone Ranger and Tonto tied their horses outside of a bar after a long, fast ride. Being fearful that Silver(thanks Paul) wouldn't cool down fast enough, The Lone Ranger asked Tonto to run in circles around his horse to stir up some wind until Silver got cooled down.
After drinking a beer, the Lone Ranger heard someone yell "Who owns the big white horse tied outside the bar?" The Lone Ranger said "He's mine, why?" The man then asked, "Did you mean to leave your Injun running?"
(I don't think you can tell that one in public anymore--arrest them, they threw me into public)
Yeah I know, it's been raining for days and I need to get to the field.

Your love for horse really came through on this one.

Nothing like getting yelled at by your crusty old grandpa to make a kid feel really loved!
Nice story - not too mushy - like a grandma would write.

Cliff ~ That joke was so "UN~PC" on SO many levels, (which is why) I enjoyed it SO MUCH I guess! Is that a John Deere T-shirt sneaking out from under that good, kind hearted, unassuming young-man's jacket there? I would have taken him for a CAT kind of guy. I hoped the rain stopped so you can get to those fields soon before it's time to plant again. I'll be pulling for your Huskers tomorrow! Although even Notre Dame might have trouble "losing to them" now. ~ jb///
P.S. - Boy you can sure see the genetic DNA of both your daughter and your grandson are linked. Especially those eyes, nose, cheeks and mouths. Both cute kids. I'll just bet... you're REAL PROUD!

Yep that's John Deere for sure LZ. Thanks for the visit. Yep they are great kids.

We've got 14 acres of corn to go that we're gonna finish up Sunday afternoon.

That's a great picture, Cliff. Suitable for framing.

I used to be really scared when my Grandpa yelled at me? Weren't you?

These guys don't look very scared. You must need some grandfathering lessons? Maybe at Blogstock '08 we can get together an toughen you up a little.

Can you chew tobacoo? That helps a little.

Great photograph, you've got a handsome family.

I used to beg for a horse when I was a kid. Now I'm so thankful that no one fell for it.

Hope you get back out there soon.

You know, Cliff, I'm real close to saying that your kids and grandkids are almost as good-looking as mine. Excellent photo that leaves room for all kinds of stories. Good shot.

And you said, "Trigger." Oops.

Hi Cliff, great photo, its good to see that your daughter inherited her mothers looks and that her son looks just like her, could have been worse if your looks had filtered in there, oh, wait they did... in the horses.

Cliff said...

That's not fair Peter, you can't even tell what the backside of those horses look like.

Your grandson looks happy as can be, and your daughter is pretty as can be.

Hay! sounds very similar to our Hey!
I had no idea horse-talk was so much like English!!

I am not offended by that joke even though a good-sized chunk of me is Cherokee.

You've been inside too long Cliff.
Go outside and stand in the rain.

Your grandson is so cute! Your daughter is pretty!

The horses also are quite handsome!! You know I love horses. I grew up like your Grandson riding all I could. My Dad said I liked riding better than eating! You are SOOO LUCKY to have 10...yes TEN horses!! Give one of those horses a big kiss for me. Not a lip kiss, but right on the bridge of his nose. Thank you!

Terrific photo- love those smiles!
My daughter STILL wants a horse. We visited her at her college last weekend. She brought us to Wallmart to see the lifesize movable, interactive pony "Butterscotch".

However, If I showed family photos you'd see an 18 yr old girl feeding a toy carrot to a moving lifesize adorable pony, petting its mane, and "Sapphire" grinning ear to ear like your grandson. A Harley Motorcycle dude, complete with a "skull" cane and tatooed all over was enjoying me photographing her joy! He could see a horse to her would be like a Harley to him.

Lovely pic, Cliff. I do love horses...they're magnificent creatures.

I used to have an EJ Holden wagon back in the mid-seventies and I called it "Tonto"...I was the Lone Ranger. The vehicle was painted red and white...had imitation wood panelling down each side...had a roof rack, front and back tow bars, the works! It was a great, wonderful old car!
