It's Snowing Here & Two Views From The Porch

Everyone in these here parts have been readying themselves for a major snow storm. We won't be inundated as Ralph has been for the past few days but it will be bad enough. It does take me back to the stories I've read about the historic blizzards in our nations past and I'm always impressed by the pioneering spirit that storms brings out in the individual and me for that matter. This storm is no different. You prepare as best you can and then wait to see what problems come your way.
I have my new generator ready to power up and hook to the household current should necessity require, the 24" snowblower is by the sidewalk and ready and my big tractor has the 9' blower mounted, plugged in and ready. Turns out I hadn't planned on everything that could go wrong but I was able to persevere. The Directv Satellite dish became covered with so much snow it quit working but I sent Marilyn out with a broom to clear it. If you keep a clear head there's no major problem a guy can't think his way through in times like these.

We're getting some much-needed rain.

We are headed home from Florida tomorrow morning, back to the land of ice and snow and even freezing rain. We had to de-ice the plane on the way down, hope it's a bit warmer on the way back. My Dad survived a terrible fall with bleeding in the brain so we have been here taking care of things and are going to fly him and my Mom home tomorrow to Maine. I think their Florida days are over. Had many people praying for him and must say I feel there was a real miracle here! More on that when I get home.

Wow, I didn't realize you guys were getting so much snow. We do have rain. Last year on Feb 2, I posted pictures of the snow we were getting. At the time of the post we had 14 inches and ended up with 23 inches. I'm thinking that should take care of us for a couple of years.

I sure wish Marilyn was here a few days ago to clear off our satellite dish. I busted through the drifts to get to it myself - never even thought of asking Char.

The snow is pretty Cliff. I see it's 24 there right now. It's 41 here and tomorrow is supposed to be a high of 51. Our winter thus far has been super mild and I have daffodils about ready to bloom.

How wonderful that Marilyn got up there to clear off the dish!! I think you are lucky she didn't take that broom to your backside!!

Well Rachel, the dish is near the ground but it was nice of her. Thanks for reading far enough to get the gist of the post. You too Ralph.

Better you than me, I hate the white stuff. It has been in the 70's here, but this week winter came back. Highs of 50's. I know, that's probably a heat wave compared to your state, lol. I can picture your wife with the broom sweeping off the satellite for ya, haha. Better sleep with one eye open.

In the 16 years we have lived here, this last snow storm had the most beautiful snow I have ever seen. I still marvel at the pictures of it (even though) most of the PRETTY stuff has gone away now.

I know we live in two very different weather worlds... When our snow storm was predicted Dirt began to get everything ready and Bet and I were secretly wishing he would forget to do something so that we would actually get a load of snow and "bad" weather.

Well he didn't forget anything and we still got a big fat whollop. Much fun was had by all in the snow until the trees started breaking, then we all stayed safely inside, or at least safe in the middle of the pasture. Nothin' like the droning hum of the generator and then that total silence when it is shut off for the night.

You'd best beware Marilyn doesn't take that broom to your clear head Cliff.

You have some reall pretty snow out there, Cliff. I am sure you have been in it by now.

It sure was nice of you to let Marilyn have first on the snow. I know that your turn was harder work than manning a broom.

HA! You are lucky Marilyn didn't take that broom to you with that suggestion! What a hoot!

Thank you for your kind words you left on my comments. Thank you for your prayers. Things are still very iffy here but Dad's spirits are good for the most part and he is doing what the nurses tell him to do. The big issue is to not fall again while the brain bleeds are healing. The doctor here said he may or may not recover, I chose to think recover! God is good, most people would never have survived the first fall!!! :o)

Dang. LOL at Marty's "bird seed" comment - that's the best story I've EVER read on a blog. I still laugh about it.
