Someone's Gotta Do It

Yesterday, I was discing and also helping my brother who was cleaning and winterizing my combine. I had told him that Cargill was sending a 'grain merchandizer' out to go over some of my old contracts and sign me up with some new ones. I said "It's just something I have to do every year".
I hung around helping Ed because the meeting was here on the farm at 9:30.
The meeting happened and went well. We talked about the future movement in the basis, the corn futures, and a lot of subjects I don't understand completely. I listened but it was hard to concentrate. This merchant has a wealth of information and easily swamps my brain when the talk turns technical.
Did I mention it was hard to concentrate. Did I mention the grain merchant was a young lady. Did I mention she looks like Kelly Ripa of Regis and Kelly fame. Did I mention she could be Kellys 'better looking' little sister.
I think I retained some of what she said.
We stood in front of her SUV with papers spread over the hood. After she left I heard my brother waggle his head and mumble "just somthing I have to do every year".

Is 'grain merchandizer' the new term for seed corn salesman these days? Did you get some new hats? I'll have to stay on the lookout for any grain merchandizer peddling in our area. Funny post.

Good story Cliff, there have to be some perks to be being the boss.
It's a long way from the old "it's a mans world" now, which is a very good thing sometimes, (today was one of those times.)

Jerry, in the old days we would talk to a grain buyer. Now if you want to sell some grain you talk to a merchandizer.

There are tears running down my cheeks. Two things:
1. You have a meeting outside with sunslight and fresh air with a lady who looks like Kelly Ripa. I have a meeting in a room with no windows, piped in air, and a woman who could be the spokesperson for the prune industry. And I should feel sorry for you?
2. Where was Marilyn?

Ralph, I hope the woman that could be the spokesperson for the prune industry doesn't read this and figure out it's her! You might look like a prune when she gets through with you!!

You bring up a good point though! Where was Marilyn??? (Cliff may be looking like a prune by now!!) LOL

I suppose it is okay to read the menu as long as you don't order anything... but you might want to include your wife at the next meeting... that way she can bop you in the back of the head each time your eyes start to glaze over.

but she is no Marylin:-)

I smiled at this b/c Mr. Escape Artist and I trust each other and rib each other. I went to a work dinner of his the other day and along w/ other wives met people who work for him. I'm usually not jolted by someone's appearance as in "be still my heart" since I'm hm (happily married), but as they say, I'm still kicking and it's all still working....

So this dude he works with who is older than us is hot!! Even my husband who rarely comments on any man's looks, agree with me when I said to him later, OH MY, what a very nice person to be so knock out handsome! But that's not what love is about. (I just enjoyed the view.)

You farmers really have to suffer for your land sometimes.

It's harsh.

:)

Gotta be there to help him get thru the ordeal again next year?
