During last weeks snow storm I walked into my office and looked out of the window to see this. Our cherry tree had turned into a blackbird tree. For a few days the birds had trouble fnding food. The ground was covered with a mushy mixture of sleet and rain that had frozen to a hard crust before the snow started falling. They had schooled up and liked the protection of the tree and grain bins behind them. The bin on the left has corn in it and the bin on the right is full of soybeans. Both bins are scheduled to be emptied and shipped to market this month. The snow has mostly melted and left us with water sitting on mud. The frost in the ground will leave us soon so the moisture can go down as well as up. I need it to dry quickly so we can get on with the trucking. Drying quickly is not something it is apt to do in the month of march in Nebraska. The air is usually cool and damp.
Speaking of hungry birds, if you have another minute you might like this post I wrote from January of 2005.

That January 2005 post is easily the funniest post I've ever read on any blog - I've told your story several times.
The other day when you wrote about the miserable weather, my day was one of those excellent days that one happens upon. I "almost" felt guilty thinking about you. We had no less than five perps plead guilty in court that morning. I was done for the day and out in an hour and a half by 10:30. It was nice to see the bad guys hobble away in chains w/o costing the taxpayers a bundle. In the parking lot, I was met by perfect weather, sunshine, blue skies, light breeze and temperatures in the mid-seventies.
But, then again, we have this thing called AUGUST here in Texas. Ya know what I mean Verne? ;0)
Thanks for those kind words Mike. I've wondered a lot about your activities and now that you tell me about part of last week...I'm really wondering about you. Stay safe my friend.
I love that photo Cliff.
I am off to read your post from Jan 05.
Take care xx
Oh my Cliff, Scragend wants to know what the heck is wrong with me. LMAO!!!!

Take care xx
That's a lot of birds Cliff! I hope it dries up so you can get things moved without getting stuck in the muck!
I enjoyed reading your story again from January 05!! Thanks for the laugh!!
Cliff,
Love the bird story. Priceless.
Your 2005 post was great! Now where are those two bird feeders in the front yard you had back then?
I don't really believe in luck that can be gotten by wishes but I sure HOPE you do get your grain out in good shape and time.
..
Well I am a sick person too because I am lmao at your 2005 post.
It reminded of my mum. She desperately wanted to get rid of some pesty birds (I think they were sparrows) that were gobbling up her seed that she was using to attract more worthy birds. She captured them live in Maryland and placed them in the trunk to release them in Pennsylvania. At the time she worked three days in PA and then would return home to Maryland. She forgot the birds were in the trunk and well..nuff said.
That is a lot of black birds in that tree.
Have a wonderful day!

Hahahaha...loved your January 2005 post!
I thought the birds were cherries at first and almost jumped through my monitor! ;)
Wow...that is quite a flock of birds!
Kendra
Thanks for the reminder of the old post. Very funny.
I love Raggedy's story also.
I had dinner with Jerry last night...were your ears burning?
It was all good.
I won't be planting any blackbird trees. I hear they are really noisy.
We've had low seventies weather for a whole week now. Ahhhh, sure is nice....
u need a cat to get rid of them birds cliff, birds like to poop on cars, or tractors...
:)
Did you get stuck in the mud?
I hope all is well.
Cliff ~ Those look like Starlings to me... I heard that Starlings were actually brought to the states from Europe in order to make sure that EVERY BIRD mentioned in Shakespeare’s writings was put into Central Park in New York city and ever since, they have migrated West in bands eating everything they want to. (Including cherries apparently)!!! ~ jb///
