Glub, Glub

We've had 2 and 34/100 inches of rain over the last few days. Before that we couldn't really get much corn picked because it was too wet. Now we have a lot water standing.
We are now in the dugout on an official 'rain-delay'. Which means I get to sit back and watch Nebraska play on tv this afternoon and also the series tonight. :) Life is good.
***********
I was doing some reading on Plains Feeder where he quoted Orson Scott Card as having said...
~"If pigs could vote, the man with the slop bucket would be elected swineherder every time, no matter how much slaughtering he did on the side."~
Thinking about the polls today and this quote really got me to laughing. It is certainly one of the most profound statements I've read in a long time.
My problem is both men running for President are carrying a slop bucket. I will admit that Obama has one in each hand with helpers following.
**********
This morning, our phone rang at 6:30 am. It was our son Dan. We were watching the morning news on our big screen and his name and number appeared in big letters on our tv. He's an early riser but not on Saturdays. Knowing our lovely daughter in-law is about to give birth in 4 weeks and that she usually delivers 3 weeks early we both said "Baby!"
We didn't get to the phone in time, he only let it ring twice. Marilyn quickly called him back to find out that his oldest daughter had stepped on the phone and it redialed the last number from last night. He said "I knew what you were thinking and that you would call me back."

I love the quote, it's funny, but then I got to thinking-- it's sad that it seems to be a true statement! That's what I get for thinking. I don't like eihter candidate very well! I'll be watching the Huskers today as well. I slept in this morning and now I feel guilty about it- wasting time you know! Good thing the baby wasn't coming, you may have had to miss the game!!

You mean to tell me, your Caller ID numbers come up on your TV screen? Ain't these here newfangled inventions marvelous?! I never heard of that one. It would make my life easier. - Could interrupt your game though.

That's a lot of water Cliff. Let me know if you need any 'help' with harvest - I'll bring my waders.

Sorry about the rain!
And go Phillies!
I can't wait to hear about the baby- any grandchildren of Cliff and Marilyn will be well-loved.

That little gem about how the pigs vote has got to find a home on my sidebar Cliff, thanks.

Glad to hear you had some timely dugout time. My FIL was disgusted when he saw the caller ID on our TV; "You mean you need to have the TV on to use the phone!!!" I let him work through that on his own - I didn't say anything.

Hi Cliff,

That's a good quote by Orson Scott Card! :)
Thanks for mentioning Plains Feeder. I followed your link and found it to be a very interesting blog to read!
(Not easy to find this kind of reading around the blogs these days!)

Hope you're enjoying your football weekend! :)

Hi Cliff! You sound so broken hearted about being in the dugout. I think you should accept Ralph's offer.

Boy technology today. To think that caller ID comes up on the TV giving the choice of whether to get up and answer the phone or not. I like it.

I hope all is well with your son and daughter-in-law. And I hope that they have a beautiful healthy baby. Lisa

No baby yet? Dagnabbit!

Bush carried a slop bucket a lot too, much to my dismay. I admire him for other things, but he let spending get WAY out of control. Obama will triple that trend, and McCain will... I'm not sure what he'll do. I know what Palin would do though.

I'm supposed to be a Razorbacks fan, but I'm not.
I don't let the neighbors know that though because I don't want to be ostracized.
Hopefully, your rain delay will go away soon.

My nephew has the phone numbers that appear on the TV screen. I'm not up on all this technology stuff. It moves so fast I can't keep up. I do have caller ID though and I like it.

Great quote about the slop buckets! It's the sad truth too!!

Very soon another baby!! How exciting for everyone!!

Rest while you can and call Ralph if need be. He'd love it!

Baby time is so exciting!

Hey, my phone guy came and the computer is working for now but I did get the number for Wild Blue and might check that out.

That quote needs to be shared with a multitude of swineherder worshipers.....

We humans are discerning enough to check out the contents of those slop buckets before we vote. Its what sets us apart from the pigs.

The man with the biggest slop bucket may well have filled it up with slop he took from your trough! Even humans have been known to fall for that one.

Funny about the phone call. Well, we had that early frost and the beans are done for. Not sure how it will affect the yields. The USDA report didn't really help the market yesterday did it?

Hard to say what this baby will do. A lot of things are different this time, hopefully the gender will be as well.

YEs, life is definitely good.

I love the pig quote. Randy and I were Swineherd and First Lady for 17 years and I can vouch for it's validity.

It was fun for the hubs to go with us. He had a few days in between corn and bean harvest so we took advantage of it! Don't get me wrong, half way there a buddy called and said, "We are putting the new tin on so-and-so's shed today....wanna help?" He was thinking about that shed for at least 20 miles, lol. That and blowing off the combine. But we had a blast!
