I Need Your Advice

I think I've found a great solution to Wild Blue. I'm going to fire them. It's now been 2 weeks of no internet service without an offer to come fix it. I've cajoled, pleaded, yelled,  and tried messing with their brains. They flat out don't care.
Soooo..I bought a new cell phone and have hooked it to my computer for a modem and it is fast. I mean instant. It's probably what you are used to, but I've never had anything fast. This is fast.
It's about $5 bucks a month cheaper too. No contract to boot.
Since the plan is specific to my cell phone and we have no internet when it's with me, I plan to switch to a local company's micro link type service in the future but until then, I'm going this way. Also it will allow me to run our laptops while traveling.
Here's where I need your help. For email I started with Juno then changed my address to dial up then changed my address when I switched to satellite and now I'll need to do it again.
This time I want to go to my last email address. (ie, yahoo or google or whatever.)
WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST??

How about cliff@morrowcollision.com? I have about 95 more free emails addresses to use. Or register your own website and have your own email address.

I've always liked gmail. But I agree with Ralph on keeping it something easy to remember. I've got email addresses out there that I'll never be able to access again due to the fact I've totally forgotten the exact user name and/or password.

I like Ralph's!

I like hotmail because I can access it anywhere in the world.

Hi Cliff! For what's it's worth, I have both a yahoo and gmail address. Both are easy to use. Lisa

All my kids and grand kids have gmail and don't seem to have any problems.

Very happy that you have worked around WildBlue. Someday I will be able to also.

Geez, I need to proof read. OK, I mixed up all the words from the deleted comment and made sentences.

Google. Gmail links your account to documents ( docs.google.com )and other amenities. Documents is much like MS Office and allows you to work/ edit in teams, if necessary, all on the same document - or when traveling. I have also found it more reliable that Yahoo. But, I do have both.

Good decision to drop kick Wild Blue.

Google is the way to go. I have two accounts. Free. and you can start up another anytime you want. Their spam bot works well most of the time, but once every 5 years or so the spammers start getting around them and...it's time for a change. I will send you a free invite if you want.

I'm sorry I'm of no help to you, Cliff. Other than, perhaps to say, I do have a secondary email addy with Google.

Hey! Marc! :)

Gmail is nice because it has both an incoming server (POP) that lets you get your mail from anywhere and an outgoing server (SMTP) that you can use to send mail from anywhere (without being logged in to a particular ISP).

I would also highly recommend the Thunderbird mail software. Its free and does it all.

Cliff,
I would go with gmail. You can access it from any computer. I've had mine for years (though not my main e-mail).

Since you are a supervisor, I think you should be supercliff@whatever...

I'm certainly no technorat to give advice here, I think I would like my gmail account more if it wasn't connected to my FB and therefore clogged with FB nonsense. It sure seems easy to get to, even when I'm sittin' at my friend's computer.

And it is all right there on a page with your blogger stuff. Just sayin'.

Keep the cliffmorrow@ part.
I recommend having Gmail for your Facebook stuff and Yahoo for a steady and reliable standby.

Mrs. has Gmail and Yahoo, she likes Yahoo better.
I have three Yahoo addresses but they are all very slow now-a-days. But I can use them any place.
My ham most used Yahoo address has 11,794 unread e-mails but I don't know what that has to do with things. Just hat I enter contests and stuff with that one.

Lois has Hotmail and Yahoo. Her Hotmail got hacked.

You should always have a personal e-mail for just family things without much spam. We have that one with our provider.
..
Bottom line: get them all, even one with Dan and settle on the one(s) you like.

I'm very happy with gmail. I love your go-around Wild Blue solution.

To avoid having to change your email address when you change providers you need to own your email address(es). You do this by owning your own domain name. It costs annually to maintain the name and it costs to host it somewhere - but it is probably less than $50 annually. When you become dissatisfied with your Internet access provider or your domain name host you can move your domain name to a new host and keep the same email address(es).

I've had several email addresses but gmail has it all and is recognized by facebook, your blog, etc. and also has lots of storage room for saving important emails. You can do so much with gmail.
