I'm So Old That I Remember..

trying to round the gas pump up to the next dime. Last night, after the pump clicked off, I rounded it $2.70 up to the nearest $5.
I remember when the 'gallon' wheel went faster than the dollar wheel on the pump.
When I was on my way across the state to college back in 70 & 71, I'd usually stop in Kearney, NE for gas. They always had a gas war going by I-80. Usually sold for 30 to 35 cents/gallon. Besides that, I was cool back then.

It's a good thing current gas prices have come down again. I know it was hard for some people and for some businesses when the prices were so high.
30 - 35 cents a gallon is unbelievable!

OK, well this must mean I'm older than you. I remember gas wars in our small town in Oklahoma the were down in the 20's. I remember one was .19 per gallon. I was very young but I asked what a "gas war" was - is why I remember! :)

Gas here was down to $1.96. Now it's up to $2.16.

If you were cool back then, does that mean that you aren't cool now? (Just step outside and you'll probably get cool real fast). Yeah, I know...poor joke, oh well, it's late.........

Hey Cliff! I was in college in 1970 and 1972 too. But I'm really old, just a year younger than Orpha.
I'M SO OLD I CAN'T REMEMBER (the prices then). I do remember the gas lines. We had a Pinto for gas milage.
One more thing, I dropped out of college for 11 years, then went back to night school for 11 more years to finish finally in 1975. Jim

Hi Cliff, pre decimal currency in Australia I can remember "petrol" being "3 shillings for an imperial gallon, (that's about 30 cents Au.)
and I'm older 'n dirt!

Yep, I remember 24 cents a gallon. I also remember pulling out of a gas station off the Interstate and saying, "I will NEVER pay 72 cents a gallon for gas!!!!"

Hmmmmmmm.

Hi Peter,

That's interesting; I had no idea that Australia used the British monetary system so recently. Did they do the decimalization at the same time that UK did (early 1970s if memory serves)?

Dad, if you are not cool anymore, just blame it on global warming.

You're still cool, Cliff.
Marilyn, wipe that smirk off your face!

Jim, my husband' first new car was a pinto...
uh, I remember gas at less than $1.
But gas is not as appealing as remembering CANDY. Ok: we all know we can order anything on the net so this does NOT give away my age (smirk hehe): I remember TURKISH TAFFY, SUGAR DADDIes, Chocolate LIFESAVERS and rarely having candy until I was old enough to date at the movies. Then practical me made my dates buy the candy beforehand in a store b/c movie prices for ccandy are ridiculous.

I'll do a post about what I remember when I can remember what I fortgot. ;)
